RIT

In the situation “Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH)”, the Incident Commander at the scene shall immediately designate a minimum of two firefighters as a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). After designation, RIT stands by to search and rescue other firefighters in distress. Those who have been properly trained in self-survival skills can greatly enhance the possibility of a successful rescue.

The standardized, predictable actions of a trapped, lost or disoriented member will enable rescuers to locate and rescue the member in a much timelier manner.
