An After Action Review (AAR) is an assessment conducted after a firefighting activity that allows firefighters and leaders to discover (learn) what happened and why.

It can be considered of as a professional discussion of an event that enables firefighters to understand why things happened in each stage of the overall process and to learn from that experience.
